What Does a Story Master Do?

Post by Archivist »

Story Masters are responsible for character approvals and ensuring that writers stay within the guidelines and rules. They also help the storytellers if asked to. They are not actual storytellers, themselves. Basically, they look after the stories and IC issues.

There is one story master per venue.

Some of the things they do and look out for-

- character profile approvals and adjustments if needed.

- overseeing the shift of NPC characters to primary ones.

- ensuring that all primary characters have approved profiles.

- helping storytellers (the thread starter) to flesh out and tell their story.

- helping to create the main story arch- example- the conflict between the CSR and the ISR within Psionics Millennium.

- Power gaming- example- when a gamer posts dominate and or control the storyline even though they are NOT the storyteller (the person who started the story thread).

- Powers of the moment- for games where characters have abilities- like Psionics. This is why profiles are a MUST HAVE. Sometimes a gamer will slip their character a convenient ability to use at a moment when they haven't depicted the ability prior to that moment. Yes, abilities sometimes grow or the character becomes better skilled with it. We're not talking about these. We're talking about abilities not seen before with a given character which they appear to have master level skills of in that moment when they've not been seen having it before.

- OOC content being used IC when a character does or should not know something that the player is aware of.

- IC content used to harass a member- attempts to circumnavigate our policy on harassment- see bottom of Rules Page - link

- Threats of BTP-(Blow up The Planet) In story content that indicates someone is plotting to blow up or decimate the planet. See Rule #15

If you have any further questions or suggestion on what the SM's tasks should be- please send me a PM. Thanks
