I found the original file on the story Some Things Never Die And Some Things Do. With all of the tags and OOC comments removed it comes to 112 Pages with 49,427 Words. The final edited / polished version won't be this long. I'll be removing characters that don't contribute or create confusion to the story. To some it seems like too much work but it gives me practice in editing content.

As I finish with each post I'll add it to the story's thread. Once I'm done with the thread I'll move it to the venues forum in the Archives.

It's a lengthy process BUT there is a method to my madness.

Trust me ;)

The stories I'm working on

01 Homecomings
02 Some Things Never Die; Some Things Do
03 Aftermath
04 New Arrivals
05 Siouxland Shakedown
06 Death Takes a Road Trip
07 A Mid-Winter’s Nightmare
08 Riders on the Storm
09 Evolutions & Revelations
10 Fever
11 Awakenings
12 For Whom the Bell Tolls
13 Exodus
14 Rise of the Magi
15 Atlantis Discovered

Step 1 is done! I just finished breaking up the last of the 10 files.

Step 2 (when I get around to it) is comparison to delete the duplicates. There are 15 stories in this cluster to work on.

Step 3 Edit to remove vampires

Since the Eternals' Realm venue is basically dead- I'm thinking about renaming the cluster of dragon rider stories with one title and each story being title as Part one, part two etc. This would affect a number of stories. They will be set as an "AU Alter-Verse" storyline.

First story: Psi-B - Homecomings

All right, it's official- I am a glutton for punishment when it comes to editing. It seemed like a good idea when I thought about it. I've taken the larger 4 files and split off the first 55 / 56 pages.

So, round 4 now has 6 files at 55 / 56 pages each. The remaining files will need to be broken again as the number of pages is wide. Back to the first set- (Rnd 4) I can usually knock out comparing 2 sets in a day but considering distractions- I'm going to plan 1 set per day. If I can do more- that'll put me ahead of schedule. So far the only planned distraction (which it really isn't) is Long Ridge. I have until July 11th to get Lesson 7 sent in.
Homecomings:

Step 1 is done! I just finished breaking up the last of the 10 files.

Step 2 (when I get around to it) is comparison to delete the duplicates. There are 15 stories in this cluster to work on.

Well, to say that I'm not in a panic right now is a miracle- is amazing in itself. I made a mistake tonight that set me back in my Archiving of Psionics Beginnings: Homecomings. It's not back to square one but it is a set back.

I had just finished comparing 2 files, it was going to leave me with only 2 files to compare on the first 55 / 56 pages of the story. After I closed out the Word files, I clicked refresh on the flash drive's window. And that's when I did it. I deleted the wrong 2 files. There's no recovery / undo delete, on a flash-drive, that I'm aware of.

Fortunately, I have back-ups on CD. So, I was able to copy those back ups onto the flash drive. This is probably the reason why I'm not in a panic. It pays to create back-ups, even redundant ones are helpful.

Now, I have to reset and restart at post one. I think I'm going to try something a bit different this time- breaking down the files by the posts. This'll work best with the files that have the full story. I'll try it with a few files and see how it goes.

Progress! Despite the setback a few days ago I've made a serious dent in the restart. The primary reason is that I chose to do the compare and delete before the edits. The hard part was ignoring my inner- editor. That'll come later.

For now, I'm happy and relieved to say that I have whittled the first eighteen posts down to one copy. There are twenty-one posts to go.

More Progress! I've just wrapped the next group of post clones. Posts 19 to 22 are done. This takes me to the start of page 50, I am getting closer to the 1/3 point of the story. The full length is 159 pages. So, three more pages will put me on mark.

As I'm working on this- a scenario for Stargate Sol is rolling through my noggin that's inspired by The Jerry Doyle Show. The idea is making the Alpha Site the first colony of Earth- heavy on the US. The other participating countries would be given access to the gate to other planets. In short- each country would establish a colony on a separate planet.

8:55pm

Whew! I have discovered with relief that one of the files for posts 22 to 30 has at least some of the edits that I had made recently. I'm not sure what happened but I'm grateful. This means the revisions aren't a total loss.

9:47pm

Another round is done! While I am not done with the files for posts 22 to 30, I have cut them in half from 18 to 9. Considering I also knocked out the files for posts 19 to 22, I'd say it's a day well spent.

There are still some people who think that I'm wasting my time. I remind them that I'm a writer and doing this helps to improve my skills in editing.

Got started at about 10:50am. Decided to track the time to see how long it takes.

6:23pm. I've come to realize something- Kisha has dropped some cookies to hint that The Truth-Seekers are the predecessors of The ISR. Now I can see that at some point- they and the Nazi remnants come together to form The International Socialist Regime. BRILLIANT!

10:39pm and DONE! At least, I'm done with posts 23 to 30. There are 9 posts to go in this phase. I know that it didn't take me almost 12 hours to get through the 13 files. I had stopped to watch Queen Latifah, made a phone call, and had a few distractions. Still, I got them done within the day.

Tomorrow I'll work on the last set. there are 17 files of posts 31 to 39.

8:58am

Got an early start today. I'm working on the 17 files on posts 31 to 39. There're 56 pages each

12:14pm

I had to pause in the comparison because something dawned on me. One of the primary focuses of the story 'Homecomings' is the fallout of Adrian Bontecou. There's a letter that's been passed around, a character is accused of the death, and people claim to have witnessed the murder.

It's all plausible and acceptable except for one things; where's the body? There's no mention of it. Everyone seems to know that Adrian is dead but no one has mentioned the body.

4:28pm

I've completed comparing 12 files. I've been going almost non-stop since about 9am. It's time for a break. 5 files to go. I'll continue tomorrow.

Getting started today with 5 files to go through to finish round 7. Fortunately, it's only one copy. So, I can deal with this.

7:37pm

I'm almost done with the comparison and what happens? I find another set of copies. I really hate that Win 7 won't let me do an 'in document' search. It diverts to search for document names. I have to boot Pilot to do this- and that's risky. She's unstable. I need to get a new DVD drive and then reinstall her operating system.

9:50pm

Done for the night. There are 8 files to go- not including the strays that I found today. I'll work on those last.

On another angle- as I work on this story I've been getting ideas for the next story.
