Character Types

Post by Sarken » March 26th, 2009, 12:42 am

Iron Sun and I thought it would help everyone to have a list defining the different character types. This should help everyone be on the same page as far as what characters fall in to what category / definition.

Player Character ( PC ):

These characters are intended to be portrayed by a specific writer ( ie - the creator ). Profiles are required before introducing these characters into any story. Permission from the creation writer must be granted before another player may use them in a scene.

Primary PC:

The one you portray the most. This can change per story thread depending on you. The creator of this character is the only one allowed to portray it unless permission is given to NPC the character. If you’re not sure, or you frequently switch between characters- your primary is the one you have the most emotional attachment too. And it does happen. Profiles are required before introducing these characters into any story. Permission from the creation writer must be granted before another player may use them in a scene.

Secondary PC:

This is the second character you portray the most. The creator of this character is the only one allowed to portray it unless permission is given to NPC the character. Profiles are required before introducing these characters into any story. Permission from the creation writer must be granted before another player may use them in a scene.

Supporting PCs:

These are characters created to support your primary character. While they may appear to be NPCs, with not requiring a profile, they are strictly reserved for play only by the creator. Players should be careful in lending these out.

Non-Player Characters:

These are characters created for general use. They are often created by staff and are useful as fillers, back drop, etc. They do not require a profile and should not have any major effect on a storyline.

Reserved NPCs:

These characters are strictly for use by their creator, and staff ( admins, moderators, etc ) because they may tend to affect the story line, these do require a profile.

Closed NPCs:

These characters are strictly for use by staff. They are the ones to watch out for because they can and often may cause affects to a story line.

Open NPCs:

Anyone can use these as they see fit. However, members are encouraged to maintain a consistency with personalities if a character has already been put to use.
