Artemis is the lover of woods and the wild chase over the mountain.
The cypress is sacred to her; and all wild animals, most especially the deer.

Artemis is the lady of wild things, huntsman-in-chief to the gods. Like a good huntsman, she is careful to preserve the young; she is the protector of dewy youth everywhere. It made sense that when the dragons finally saw humans maturing and evolve to be tolerated, she bargained with them for the sake of humans.

"There is much potential in humans," she said. "Let us raise then to understand the universe that they too may benefit."

"What do you offer them?" The elders of dragon kind asked. "What is expected of us?"

"I will raise up a city for them that they may have a place to learn and store their knowledge. HI will give the higher dragons, the metal ones, the ability to turn into human that they may interact on the human level. I will give all dragons wings, that they may fly. Let the lesser dragons take one human as a mount. I will give these humans gifts that they may commune and bond with the dragon who choose them. On one day, each year, they must gather in an arena where the dragons are to choose who will receive the honor of flying with them."

"So shall it be." The elder dragons resounded. "We shall call this time The Day of Dragons and the moment The Choosing Time. Let it be a celebration of communion when dragons and humans come together."

And so it was. Artemis built a great city which she named Atlantis for the great ocean the spiraling towers looked down on. She then built an Acropolis atop the Great Mountain, carving tunnels and chambers beneath it for the dragons and their riders to call home. The crown of which was a temple where riders were to pray, worship, and bring her offerings in gratitude for what she has done for them and mankind.
