Title: Land Baron - Lord

Background

Abram DeWitt, is a former Musketeer. He left the service of the King of France for a secretive mission with the church; to lead a small band of people who called themselves The Truth-Seekers. Their objective was to uncover, identify, and record, the truth about people with ungodly abilities.

Under DeWitt's leadership and guidance, they became Watchers of man. Not only did they continue their duties, they also reported to the Vatican. When a gifted person became a threat, as in using their abilities for selfish, harmful or criminal means it was a member of the Truth-Seekers who brought the information to the public eye during trials. Although, by their code, instill by DeWitt, the person never identified themselves as a Seeker.

DeWitt himself was raised in Versailles, a close friend to Augustin Bonheur, whom he'd gone through training with, he was a proud Musketeer. When the church called on him to serve them, to lead the Truth-Seekers, the devout man could not say no. To protect his colleagues and secure a place of meeting, DeWitt bought his title and land barony with the aid of the church.

He finagled his way among the social, seeking others who might service the cause well. One of these men was Lord Richard Delaney. DeWitt had met him during his time as a Musketeer, he thought Delaney was a good man. Unfortunately, he saw the darkness in the man all too late.

By the time he realized what Delaney was and his true intentions, the Truth-Seekers had been corrupted. The core members were disheveled and confused, untrusting the man who was held with high standards among the people.

With them, DeWitt ordered the destruction of the hall where they met. They stripped it of anything that could connect it to them and then burned it to the ground. From there, the small band of trusted man and women met beneath DeWitt's home. They continued to meet in secret, under the cover of darkness, in the chambers underground.

DeWitt takes sole responsibility of reporting to the church. He suggested that the cluster back-off from reporting to the courts. Seeing that Delaney lavished in doing so, in fabricating the truth, DeWitt saw the futility in trying to counter his adversary. All they could do was warn his good friend Curran Bontecou about the threat Delaney posed.

On his sword, DeWitt swears that the truth would be known, and that one day Delaney will be disgraced

The philosopher, theologian, and scientist inside him questions- where do these gifts come from? why does one person become gifted and another does not? His cluster is ultimately destined to align with the gifted and become a part of The Consortium - normal humans working with Psionics- it can happen. It happens in this reality. DeWitt is the man who declares that being gifted is not by chance, it is inherited.
There is truth and then there's Truth.
One is perception the other is fact.
