Melvin Draudy was born into an average family in a relatively average city. As a baby, hints of his powers first appeared when he was diagnosed with a rare bone disease which prevented the bones from holding calcium and thus, they never hardened. Originally the prognosis was that he would never be able to walk, but he continued to defy all expectations, growing up relatively normal.
Still, he was forced to wear a helmet to protect his head as a child for fear a blow to the head would damage his brain. Whether or not he had his full abilities all his life is debatable, but they were revealed at age 14 when the car he was riding in was involved in a terrible accident. His body was crashed, his helmet shattered and particularly big chunk of metal was pushed into his head. He sat there quietly until his mother arrived at the scene and the rescue workers refused to let her near the car claiming the body was too gruesome to look. Mel, thinking they were talking about someone else, exclaimed "Where's the body?"
He pulled himself out eager to get a better look.
One of the rescue workers blurted out, "Holy crap! This kid's made out of silly putty or something."
The story made the headline of the local paper, alerting the Consortium of the existence of this new psionic. He received an invitation to study at the East House which he eventually accepted after his family was hassled one too many times because of the "freak." Initially, his powers were deemed not powerful enough to allow him to take the learning track to becoming a field agent (an undiplomatic evaluator referred to him as a "living punching bag") so he instead learned the operations side of the Consortium. After turning 18, he continued to work at the Consortium East House, but began to take extra combat training to take full advantage of his abilities. It is now, at 24, he believes that that he is ready to test for certification to work in the field. .
Mel is good natured in general, but sensitive when it comes to others making fun of his powers. He has years of experience in the operational side of the Consortium and has expertise with computers, electronics and cars. He is considered by some to be a fixture in the administration offices, though his interactions with field agents has been minimal up until now.
